Autumn Creek Music Beginning Guitar

Introduction to Guitar Fundamentals

This program is highly recommended for beginners interested in learning both single note and chord guitar styles. It provides a solid foundation in music fundamentals, emphasizing the importance of understanding musical symbols needed to read music, whether from printed materials or online sources. The curriculum covers traditional music notation, guitar tablature, and chord diagrams, ensuring students can interpret a variety of music formats. Additionally, the program places a strong focus on grasping rhythmic concepts and the elements that make up musical rhythm.

Skills and Knowledge Acquired

Upon completing the program, students will be able to identify all the notes on the six guitar strings in open position. They will become familiar with various musical symbols, enabling them to read intermediate-level musical notation and TAB. The program covers the first six essential chords, which provide the foundation to play thousands of songs. Learners will also explore several scales useful for warm-up exercises and future lead guitar playing, among other important skills.

Song Repertoire

Throughout the course, students will learn to play more than 15 songs. Notable selections include "My Girl," "Stand By Me," "Your Heart Will Go On," and "Amazing Grace," in addition to many other songs. The repertoire is designed to reinforce learning and provide practical application of the skills acquired.

Graduated Learning Approach

All material is taught in a graduated manner, ensuring that students progress through increasing levels of difficulty at a comfortable pace. This approach helps build confidence and competence as learners advance.

Building Chord and Rhythm Proficiency

As students develop their guitar skills, the program introduces beginning guitar chords and strumming techniques. Learning to strum chords is an effective way to play songs across various genres, including country, folk, rock, and Christian music. Many songs are composed of simple, repetitive chord sequences and rhythm patterns. At ACM, the instruction begins with four basic chords and teaches numerous songs using straightforward rhythms. As students progress, their chord vocabulary and rhythm patterns are expanded, allowing them to play any chord-based song.
